Robert Barton v. City of Norwalk: The city of Norwalk has tentatively agreed to resolve a pending lawsuit for $1.2 million with the owner of a parking lot that was taken by eminent domain when the city built its new police headquarters a decade ago.
Additionally the city has arranged for the purchase of the properties from the owner as part of a redevelopment plan for that downtown area.
“We see it as a win-win,” said Mario Coppola, who practices law at Berchem Moses in Westport and serves as the city of Norwalk’s corporation counsel. “We get to resolve the Appellate Court case, additional tax appeals against the city and most importantly there will be a redevelopment of those properties in the near future. We see it as an opportunity to redevelop an entire block that is underutilized.”
