On March 21, 2024 a Milford Court returned a verdict in favor of the Town of Seymour in a lawsuit brought by Phoumareth Phouangphiarith, a Seymour police officer, against the Town. The officer sought to permanently prohibit the Town from removing him from his present position as a temporary acting Sergeant. Although a temporary, ex parte injunction was previously issued in favor of the officer, following evidence and trial the Court lifted the temporary injunction and denied a permanent injunction.
Officer Phouangphiarith claimed that he was entitled to remain in the position of Sergeant and that the Town should be precluded from promoting anyone else to the position of Sergeant.
The Plaintiff was represented by Jeffrey Ment of Hartford. The Town of Seymour was represented by Attorney Bryan L. LeClerc of Berchem Moses PC.
“We are grateful for the verdict in favor of the Town of Seymour,” said Attorney Bryan LeClerc. “This verdict affirmed that the Town acted correctly, and it can now proceed with the appropriate staffing of its Police Department,” LeClerc added.
